Thankful for Monarchs

Scientists have seen a decline in the monarch population on the California coast over the years. They theorize that a lack of the plant milkweed, growing real estate expansion, and climate change contribute to the declining butterfly population.

Every year the Xerces Society monitors the monarch population from November 16 through December 6. They call it the Monarch Thanksgiving Count. Each year scientists hope to be thankful for more monarchs than the previous year.
